Office and Staff

Colyer Commercial was formed in 1991 from the commercial department of Geering & Colyer, a general practice agency formed in the late 1800's. Previously located within Bank Chambers, a building erected for Geering & Colyer in 1925, we moved in December 2000 to Tufton Street, in the heart of the town centre of Ashford. The principal is David Swindale FRICS, MCIArb who qualified in 1976 whilst working for Storey Sons & Parker in Middlesbrough. In 1980 he went to Swansea to work for the Welsh Development Agency dealing with industrial development and agency. Whilst there for two and a half years, he was responsible for the letting of 250,000 sq. ft. of industrial space in South West Wales. In 1983 he joined Geering & Colyer as commercial manager in the Ashford office. He was elected a fellow of the RICS in 1989 and had responsibility for the growth of that office over the 8.5 years until Colyer Commercial was formed. David was elected a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators in December 1999 and has acted as expert witness on occasions.

We are involved with Valuation work, Agency, Rent Reviews, Lease Renewals, Compulsory Purchase work and Property Management. David Swindale has expertise in Rating and has successfully appealed against assessments in the 1973, 1990, 1995, 2000 and 2005 Rating Lists.

We currently have Henry Large working with us following his studies at West of England University.

The office is supported by Ruth Paddon who rejoined us in 2001, having previously worked for us in 1985 (when it was Geering & Colyer) and Susan Swindale MAAT from 1991.

We are Chartered Surveyors complying with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors standards and practice requirements, including being regulated for general insurance matters. We have a complaints procedure in place which is available upon request. We are VAT registered, no 571 9750 11.
